You Asked. We’re Delivering.

Laura LaingIt’s always challenging to find the perfect balance between under- and over-communicating, especially in the Internet age. While ASJA hasn’t been accused of over-sharing, a la your Wisconsin cousin who cannot shut up about her aging cat’s eating habits, we did get the message that two emails per week, plus a periodic members-only email was too darned much for your overflowing inboxes.

That’s why we’ll unveil a brand new publication stream next Tuesday, February 7. Here’s what’s happening:

  1. “ASJA Weekly” and “Tuesday Talk” are merging into a once-a-week email newsletter, jam packed with special announcements and pro-advice. A special section called “ASJA Confidential” will highlight ASJA member news and benefits, including a link to our new weekly blog, also called “ASJA Confidential.” This terrific resource will arrive each and every Tuesday morning.
  1. “ASJA Confidential,” our previously members-only newsletter edited by Sandra Gurvis, will take up residence on the web, as a new blog. Sandra is still at the helm, but instead of publishing all of her terrific articles at one time, she’ll dole out interviews, advice, and updates in weekly blog posts.

The Magazine? That’s staying as-is—bi-monthly, online and in your snail mailbox. But “The Word,” our weekly blog written by members, is retiring with searchable archives remaining on the site. (A link to the archive will be included in Sandra’s first “ASJA Confidential” post.)

We will fine tune “ASJA Weekly” and “ASJA Confidential” over the next month or so and welcome your questions and feedback. Ideas for “ASJA Confidential” should be sent to Sandra Gurvis at asjaoffice@asja.org with Sandra’s name in the subject line. Ideas for “ASJA Weekly” go to ASJA staff at asjaoffice@asja.org.

Transitions like this don’t happen by magic, so big thanks go out to the following folk: Sandra Gurvis, Sherri Paprocki, Holly Koenig, Nora Keller, Diane Jackson, Gemma Rainer, and Theresa Tolan. And we owe a deep debt of gratitude to our very last editor of “The Word,” Bobbi Dempsey, who has been so gracious and helpful as we made the decision to consolidate. Lunch on me during the conference, Bobbi!
