ASJA'S Writer Referral Service Gets A New Interim Director
ASJA’S WRS GETS A NEW INTERIM DIRECTOR
Following the resignation of Stan Steinreich as director of the Writer Referral Service, ASJA’s board of directors has unanimously voted to appoint Jennie L. Phipps as interim director of WRS. Jennie is a freelance writer and editor who specializes in media, small business and health. She’s the publisher of Freelance Success, a weekly subscription newsletter for nonfiction writers (www.FreelanceSuccess.com) and contributing editor of Bankrate.com; a contract managing editor for Better Investing; as well as a regular contributor to Crain Communication’s Detroit Business, Television Week and Modern Physician. She also writes for Investor’s Business Daily, Industry Week, Health Day, Old-House Journal, Preservation Online, Smart Homeowner and Home Appliance.
Before becoming a full-time freelancer, Jennie was executive editor of the Burlington County Times, in Willingboro N.J.; and previously worked as executive editor of two Gannett-owed newspapers, the Observer-Dispatch, in Utica, NY; and the Valley News Dispatch and Affiliated Publications, in suburban Pittsburgh, PA. Before that, she was assistant managing editor at The Morning News and Evening Journal, in Wilmington, DE. She’s received two awards: Gannett Editor of the Year 1987 and Pennsylvania Society of Newspaper Editors, Newspaper of the Year.
The WRS committee will oversee Jennie’s work, as it develops plans to revamp the service to improve its benefits to members. Meanwhile, we are delighted that Jennie has accepted the position of interim director, and hope you’ll join us in welcoming her to ASJA.
