The ASJA 2024 conference schedule Sept. 24-26 is live.
The three-day conference features more than 100 top-notch speakers:
- Keynote speakers include Krishan Trotman, author and founder of Hachette Book Group’s Legacy Lit imprint and the self-proclaimed “Beyonce of books”; Peter Shankman, serial entrepreneur, founder of the new Source of Sources service, and long-time freelance supporter; David W. Brown, Temple University assistant dean and communications professor, journalist, student advisor, long-time media industry professional and award-winning speaker; and memoirist Abigail Thomas, in conversation with ASJA member, author and writing instructor and podcaster Estelle Erasmus
- Freelance journalists will hear what editors want from writers today and get tips and advice from award-winning journalists on how to make the most of a journalism career right now.
- Sessions on content marketing writing will help freelancers navigate changing markets, including how to work with content agencies or start your own, what’s new with SEO, and how to break into speechwriting and writing podcasts and video scripts.
- Sessions on writing nonfiction books will cover everything from landing an agent and a book deal to building an author platform and paying the bills while you wait for royalties to arrive.

Introducing the Airmeet Conference Platform
The event – what we’re calling ASJA’s “Conference From Anywhere” – takes place on the Airmeet virtual event platform. Airmeet is similar to Zoom – but better. Like Zoom, Airmeet provides a webinar-style online meeting space where ASJA conference speakers and attendees can congregate. It has a built-in conference schedule that shows the full slate of activities for the three-day event that’s searchable by day, type of session, keynote speaker, or speaker.
Airmeet is easy to use, but new to most of us. ASJA will hold an Airmeet training session prior to the conference – stay tuned for details. In the meantime, you can perform an Airmeet Pre-Event System Check.
We know writers like to talk, especially with other freelancers! The 2024 conference schedule will feature a Writers’ Lounge, an area with virtual “tables” where attendees can gather informally to chat before or after conference sessions. Some Writers’ Lounge table topics will be pre-selected, including for tables where speakers will take questions after their sessions, where attendees can find out more about ASJA, and where attendees can chat about work or the books they’re reading, shows they’re watching, or podcasts they’re listening to.
Look for more information about the Writers’ Lounge coming soon, including a full list of tables and topics.
