Merlisa Lawrence Corbett is a journalist and author who writes about tennis, sports in society, home and garden, small business and general interests.
She is the author of the book: Serena Williams: Tennis Champion, Sports Legend, and Cultural Heroine. Lawrence Corbett is also a contributor to AARP.org and TennisView magazine. A former tennis columnist for Bleacher Report and reporter for Sports Illustrated, she began covering sports while a college student at the University of South Florida. She also covered sports for the Pittsburgh Press, Staten Island Advance, Tampa Tribune and Tampa Bay Times.
Lawrence Corbett wrote the foreword for “A Hard Road To Glory: A History Of The African American Athlete: Track and Field,” by legendary tennis star Arthur Ashe Jr.
Her work has also appeared in HGTV.com, Ebony, Essence, Capitol File and Black Enterprise magazines. She graduated from USF with a bachelor’s degree in journalism.
