Victoria Woodhull: Shattering Glass Ceilings
Victoria Woodhull (September 23, 1838-June 10, 1927) is truly one of Ohio’s (and the country’s) most remarkable characters–and, in September 2024, a documentary where I wrote the script will debut. Coming from a poverty-stricken background and with little education, she managed to become the first woman to publicly address the U.S. Congress (1870) and the first woman to run for U.S. president (1872). She was an active suffragist, newspaper editor, and Wall Street stockbroker, accomplishing more than anyone could have ever expected. As an understatement, she was also quite controversial; the photo comes from a Harper’s Weekly editorial cartoon from Thomas Nast where he labeled her as “Mrs. Satan.”
I love researching and writing about historical figures of interest, greatly enjoy script writing, and am always looking for these kinds of professional opportunities. I also wrote the script for the Emmy Award-nominated Trail Magic: The Grandma Gatewood Story.
