ASJA Charitable Trust Receives Grant from Amazon Literacy Partnership
New York, NY – June 12, 2017 – The American Society of Journalists and Authors Charitable Trust announced it was awarded the esteemed Amazon Literacy Partnership grant. The Amazon Literary Partnership provides grants to innovative nonprofit literary organizations that strive not only for a lasting impact on writers’ lives, but on the broader literary and publishing communities.
“ASJA highly values its continued relationship with Amazon,” according to ASJA President Sherry Beck Paprocki. “Part of ASJA’s goal is to educate and mentor writers with emerging voices from diverse communities and the Amazon grant provides a pathway for us to take action on that goal.”
The ASJA Charitable Trust is the educational and charitable arm of American Society of Journalists and Authors that helps independent writers in different stages of their careers. The ASJA Educational Foundation is dedicated to offering programming and services for aspiring nonfiction writers, drawing on professional writers and editors to offer conferences, seminars, mentoring, and publications that are open to all writers.
“The Amazon Literary Partnership is thrilled to partner with ASJA for the sixth year in a row,” says Amazon’s Director of Author and Publishing Relations, Neal Thompson. “At a time of ‘fake news’ and public concerns about accuracy in the media, the work of ASJA is vital, and we proudly support their mission to represent and empower independent nonfiction writers around the country.”
The ASJA Charitable Trust will use this grant to support the Trust’s educational programming. This programming includes ASJA publications, ASJA Shop Talks, and ASJA’s special projects aimed at contract literacy, which will help new writers understand the language of contracts and how contracts have a lasting effect on their work.
