Stacey Freed

Being an ASJA member comes with lots of perks. The newest is a 20% discount on a single-user, one-year subscription to the AP Stylebook Online, the digital version of the venerable guide from the Associated Press.

The AP Stylebook Online is searchable, customizable, and updated throughout the year.

ASJA members can also get 20% off registration for the new AP Stylebook Workshop, which covers the principles of AP style and how to apply it. The workshop includes access to AP Stylebook Online and AP Stylebook Study Guides. Find out how to claim your discount here.

Taking advantage of all ASJA has to offer will improve your writing and help your business thrive. Take it from me – I’ve learned so much from fellow writers and editors about crafting pitches and organizing my work. The organization’s webinars and educational seminars have given me insider tips and access to editors.

New and Popular ASJA Member Benefits

If you haven’t checked out the ASJA Benefits page lately, you’re in for a treat. Here are a few newer or popular perks:

Examine.com. Members who cover nutrition or health care topics have free, unlimited access to Examine.com, a massive, high-quality database of nutrition research. The database is powered by a multidisciplinary team of more than 30 full-time researchers who analyze and summarize the latest health and nutrition studies. Read ASJA Vice President Darcy Lewis’ Q&A with Examine.com founder Sol Orwell. Learn more and get a link to a video explainer here.

ASJA Press Card. One of ASJA’s oldest, most popular benefits is the ASJA Press Card. Press cards remain an important part of an independent writer’s tool kit. Among other things, they make it easier to get journalist access to political events, press conferences, and emergency scenes. They instantly identify you as a journalist in any situation. The press card is available upon request for all members at no charge. Click here for details.

Discounted legal consultation. ASJA members can get help with contracts, licensing agreement, and other legal issues from Joseph Perry, founder of Joseph Perry Law, in White Plains, New York. Perry counsels writers, authors, editors, agents, and other creatives in the book and magazine publishing industries, and works as a literary agent. Read ASJA member Holly Rizzuto Palker’s Q&A with Joseph Perry about the services he offers, fees, commonly misunderstood legal issues that affect freelancers, and more.
