How to Pitch the New York Times
Here's a networking opportunity you won't want to miss: A stellar panel of assigning editors from the most freelancer friendly sections of the New York Times will give you the inside scoop on the stories they're seeking, what they look for in a query, and other tips on getting your byline in the newspaper of record.
Moderator: Caitin Kelly, ASJA board member and frequent contributor to the New York Times.
Panel:
Phil Coffin, Westchester and Long Island section editor
David Corcoran, editor, Science Times
Trish Hall, editor, House & Home
Sandy Keenan, deputy sports editor
Time: 5:30 to 7:30 PM.
Place: CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, Room 308, 219 West 40th Street.
Cost: Members and guests: $25; CUNY students $15; other non-members, $35. Includes refreshments; cash bar.
Reservation required to attend the program: Contact the ASJA Office; 212-997-0947 (phone); 212-937-2315 (fax); email diana at asja.org (do not send credit card info via email).
Viewing the live webcast is a member-only benefit, but ASJA plans to offer downloads of its webcasts for sale to the public in the future. Details will be posted when available.
Here's an item for the member calendar. I also want to put a headline on the public page, but first DELETE the last 3 lines before putting the text up on in the public section, since the webcast is a member-only benefit, and replace them with, "Viewing the live webcast is a member-only benefit, but ASJA plans to offer downloads of its webcasts for sale to the public in the future. Details will be posted when available."
